Progress Report on Rest Wednesday

The officers got up early and made us all pancakes, eggs, and bacon for breakfast on rest Wednesday. The kids were gathering in the kitchen with their officers.
The new house walls and porch are fully framed. The trusses will go up tomorrow.
The metal roof on another house is half up.
Landscaping on a third house was completed yesterday.
Power washing and painting was completed on another house.
Wall prep for painting is finished in the bathroom of another house. Casing on back door was also installed and first course painted.
Preparations for an auction of recycled building materials was the primary task for 1/3 of the group yesterday. This involved moving, sorting, and stacking lumber. Moving and sorting BIG windows and moving and sorting concrete blocks.
We are busy.
More coming soon! Andy

Dear Parents…

They made it!  The kids have all settled into the Kentucky work-week.  I am getting photos and video clips of basketball practice, dinner prep, “the girls” terrorizing “the boys” with water bombs.  Looks like the weather’s great and the eating’s good.  I’ll be posting more clips home from Kentucky tomorrow!  So far, only good news, and hard-earned fun.

Anticipation from Adult Mentor, Sarah Keeping

My excitement has been building over this week through my trips to Walgreens for toothpaste (extra, in case my toiletries end up on top of a van again) and secret buddy gifts, and searching in my basement for  last year’s work gloves. It’s been funny telling my co-workers and friends what I’ll be doing this week, and seeing their shock at my description of sleeping on a bus and doing physical labor for a week…while I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing. :)

“Super Excitement” from our HYG Co-Presidents

I’m really excited to depart on my fourth and final trip to Neon, Kentucky; every year is different in its own way this year has a lot in store for us.  – Chan Gregg

Good gravy!! Just one more day until the final chapter of my Neon, Kentucky book begins!!! I think by my extensive use of exclamation points, you can tell that I am super excited!!!!!!!!! Just think that in a little more than 24 hours, you will be seeing a juxtaposition in climate, and the enthralling Appalachian mountains will be creeping into view. Let me just break things down for you… I am getting as many butterflies in my stomach just talking about this, as I did when I found out that they were coming out with a sequel to High School Musical!! I mean, in 48 hours from now we will be propped up in our shorts and t-shirts on a cliff, overlooking a Neon Little League baseball game!! Just like with High School Musical, DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!!!!!!! I will see you all very soon!!!!!!!!       – Chris Appelman
